How to add Greenery

We have pulled together our favourite ways to add a dash of Greenery, from the bold to the beautiful

Unless you’ve been in hiding since December, you’ll probably know by now that Greenery is Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2017.

Dubbed a 'fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew', the shade is making waves throughout the interior design, fashion, foodie and wedding worlds.

Not least, Pinterest has gone full-on Greenery-gaga, and the platform is brimming with inspirational ways to incorporate the glorious shade into your life and home.

We’ve pulled together our favourite ways to add a dash of Greenery, from the bold to the beautiful.

1. Window Dressing

Whether it’s a full room makeover or styling a new extension you’re after, Greenery can be incorporated into your window dressing choices. Green Venetian blinds work brilliantly to add a pop of colour against white walls and can really make a feature of your window both day and night. If you’re after a more sumptuous, rich interior look, then a velvet floor-length curtain in a Greenery shade will really add that French, Louis XIV feel to a dining room or lounge window. Pairing with simple wooden flooring and dark window frames will add a contemporary twist.

2. Garden View

Nothing beats a gorgeous view and if you’re not sure about bringing Greenery into your indoor colour scheme, one way to benefit from the 2017 Pantone is to beautify your garden and maximise your outdoor view instead. If you have a yard or large patio area, think about investing in some outdoor furniture in a Greenery hue – rattan or a painted wooden set, perhaps – and complement with scatter cushions in neutral tones. If this is still a bit too much of a bold step for you, then simply getting green fingered will make all the difference and provide a view that the neighbours will be envious of. Spend time preening your garden edges, laying or mowing the lawn and add some large buxus balls to concrete planters; all effective ways of creating a year-round view to be proud of.

3. Bringing the Outside In

Greenery isn’t just for the outdoors and this tone can be incorporated by actually adding more plants inside. Cacti and succulents are a big 2017 trend and you can easily pick some up at your local supermarket or garden centre. Add a range of plants in different shapes, sizes and heights and group together either on a window sill, or on a book shelf, to add natural green tones at home without having to change your whole colour scheme.

4. Front Door

Why wait to make a statement at home on the inside, when you can make one from the outside? Painting your front door green is certainly one way to show your personality and add a unique touch to your home. If the Greenery shade is a little too bold, you could opt for its darker sibling Kale, which was also released by Pantone as another tone for 2017. Coupled with a gold animal-shaped knocker, like this bumble bee, it’s a fabulous way to reinvent your exterior look and create curb side style.

5. Window Seat

Here at Network VEKA, we love a good window seat – a little nook to curl up with a great book and a cuppa to while away Sunday afternoons, taking in the view while being cosy inside. This is possibly the easiest way to incorporate the Pantone colour of the year and couple it with the big Winter trend, Hygge. Simply add 3 or 4 scatter cushions in different sizes and tones, with some warm, chunky knit throws, to reinvigorate a window seat for 2017. The hardest decision will be which book you want to read!
