What is the difference between aluminium and uPVC windows?

There are some significant differences between aluminium windows and uPVC windows. uPVC has been a popular choice for window frames since the 1980s. It’s a very durable material and resistant to rot, this means it has a long lifespan and requires very little maintenance. In most cases, frames do not need replacing for 20-30 years. One reason why aluminium has been deemed less favourable than uPVC in the past is due to its low thermal efficiency. Aluminium is a highly conductive material, which means heat can pass through it very easily which can lead to higher bills. Thanks to their improved acoustic insulation, uPVC windows tend to offer slightly better soundproofing than aluminium, as such, if you live in a noisy area, uPVC may be a better option. Aluminium windows do tend to be more expensive than uPVC windows due to the higher manufacturing and materials costs.
